1. Application

Q1. Who can apply for the HOPE Program?
Students who are currently enrolled in an overseas university (undergraduate or graduate).
  • Students who have already graduated before or during the program period are not eligible to apply.
  • Students on a leave of absence during the semester but still within their enrollment period are eligible to apply.
Q2. What kind of documents should I upload?
You must upload:
  1. Copy of Passport (or National ID card if you don’t have a passport)
  2. Certificate of Enrollment (or Academic Transcript)

Document requirements:

  • Must be in English
  • Must clearly show key information (name, university name, etc.)
  • Must be valid:
    • Passport: must not be expired.
    • Certificate of Enrollment / Academic Transcript: must be issued within the past 6 months.
Q3. Can I apply for several sessions?
Yes, you can join different semesters.
  • Example: If you took the Fall program, you can also apply for the Spring program.
  • For the Winter School, you can apply for both Session A and Session B.

However:

  • You must submit a separate application for each session.
  • You must not create multiple email accounts under the same name to take more courses within a single session.
Q4. I’m a graduate. Can I still apply? Why not?
The HOPE Program is only open to students who are currently enrolled in a university, as it is part of our student exchange initiative. Therefore, graduates are not eligible to apply.
Q5. I uploaded my documents, but I received a message asking me to update them. Why?
Your previous application either misses required information or needs corrections. Please re-upload your documents according to the guidelines below.

① Passport / National ID Copy

  • Must clearly show your full name, date of birth, and nationality.
  • Student ID cards cannot be accepted.

② Certificate of Enrollment / Academic Transcript

  • Official document with the university’s logo or stamp.
  • In English and shows the university name, your name, and enrollment status.
  • PDF or JPG format, issued within the last 6 months.

Common reasons for receiving an update request:

  • No document uploaded / file cannot be opened.
  • Not in English / unofficial (no logo/letterhead; screenshot).
  • Only admission/acceptance letter uploaded.
  • Expected graduation date already passed, requiring verification of current enrollment status.
Q6. How long does the application review take?
About 2 weeks (excluding weekends and holidays). We kindly ask for your patience, as we are unable to provide individual updates or responses to early-status inquiries. Once the review is completed, we will contact you directly with the result.

2. Program Information

Q7. What is the HOPE Program?
The Hanyang Online Pre-Exchange (HOPE) Program is a tuition-free online learning opportunity for students currently enrolled at overseas universities to take short-term, credit-bearing online courses taught in English.
Q8. Is there any tuition fee?
No. HOPE is tuition-free for both partner and non-partner university students.
Q9. What are the available courses?
Six courses are offered:
  • <Science> Revolutions in Science and Technology
  • <Entrepreneurship> Global Entrepreneurship – Launch Your Startup
  • <Economics> Principles of Microeconomics
  • <Business> Modern Society and Marketing
  • <Korean Language> Korean for Beginners
  • <K-Culture> From Oldboy to Squid Game: Navigating the Korean Cultural Wave

Course offerings may vary each semester.

Q10. Are the courses the same every semester?
Generally similar, but new courses are developed each year. Please check the current semester’s course list before applying.
Q11. Can I preview the course content before applying?
Yes, you can preview the syllabus and sample video lectures:
Q12. How many courses can I take?
Up to two courses per session (maximum 6 credits).
Q13. What is the class format?
100% online, asynchronous (pre-recorded) classes taught in English.
Q14. Are there exams?
Yes—usually mid-term and final exams or quizzes. Please check LMS announcements and complete them within the designated periods.
Q15. What’s the difference between HIWS/HISS Online and HOPE?
They refer to the same program. HOPE is the official name; depending on the semester, you may also see HISS Online (summer) or HIWS Online (winter).
Q16. Exchange vs Visiting vs HOPE? Can on-campus students take HOPE online courses?
  • Exchange: Nominated by your home university to study on campus at Hanyang.
  • Visiting (Free Mover): Apply independently to study on campus; fee-paying with exclusive benefits.
  • HOPE: Tuition-free online short-term courses taken remotely from your home country.
Exchange/Visiting students may take online courses, but the registration system is different. Please do not apply through the HOPE website, but register for these courses during the regular course registration period.

3. System & Access

Q17. When will I receive my student ID number?
Student IDs are generated after the application period ends and will be sent via newsletter.
Q18. How can I access the classes?
Make sure to read the Online Course Guide sent to your email before accessing the classes.
Please use Chrome browser, and if any auto-translate functions or extensions are turned on, the courses may not play properly. Please ensure that no such features are enabled while accessing your courses.
Q19. I can’t log in. What should I do?
Follow the Online Course Guide. If issues persist, email hyuhope@hanyang.ac.kr with your name and student ID.
Q20. Where can I take my classes?
Via the HY-in Portal or LMS.
Q21. The video isn’t playing properly. What can I do?
Please make sure you are using the Chrome browser and that any auto-translate functions or browser extensions are turned off, as they may interfere with video playback.
If the problem continues, please send a screenshot of the issue along with a brief description of the symptoms to hyuhope@hanyang.ac.kr.

4. Course & Transcript

Q22. Can I change my course?
There is no formal add/drop period for the online program. Please review the syllabus and sample videos carefully before applying.
If you still wish to request a change after the application, please send us an email at hyuhope@hanyang.ac.kr with your request details. We will review your request and get back to you after checking the availability.
Q23. Can I drop a course?
Dropping a course after the semester begins is not possible. If you stop attending or do not complete the course, the result will be recorded as an F.
Whether or not this course is transferred for credit is your choice, so you may simply choose not to transfer the credit to your home university.
Q24. What happens if I don’t complete the course?
If you do not complete the course, including cases where you attend less than two-thirds of the lectures or do not finish required assignments and receive an F grade, please note that whether or not this course is transferred for credit is your choice, so you may simply choose not to transfer the credit to your home university.
Q25. When can I receive my transcript?
Within 4 weeks after the semester ends, for students who respond to the transcript request form shared via newsletter.
Q26. How can I transfer the credits to my home university?
Credit transfer depends on your home institution’s policy. Please check with your home university directly.

1. 申请 (Application)

Q1. 谁可以申请 HOPE 项目?
目前就读于海外高校(本科或研究生)的在校生均可申请。
  • 在项目开始前或进行期间已毕业的学生不具备申请资格。
  • 如该学期处于休学状态,但仍在学籍有效期内可申请。
Q2. 需要上传哪些材料?
需上传:
  1. 护照复印件(如无护照,可上传国家身份证复印件)
  2. 在读证明(或成绩单)

材料要求:

  • 出具时间6个月内
  • 英文
  • 清晰显示姓名、学校名称等关键信息
Q3. 可以申请多个学期/批次吗?
可以,您可选择不同学期参与。
  • 例如:参加过秋季学期,也可再申请春季学期。
  • 冬季学期可同时申请 A、B 两个 Session。

但是:

  • 每个 Session 需要分别单独申请。
  • 请勿为了在同一学期修读更多课程而以相同姓名注册多个邮箱。
Q4. 已经毕业还能申请吗?为什么不可以?
HOPE 为交流型在线项目,仅面向在校生。已毕业的同学不符合申请条件。
Q5. 我已上传材料,却收到“需要更新材料”的通知,为什么?
多因材料缺失或格式需更正。请按下列指引重新上传:

材料指引

① 护照/身份证 复印件

  • 清晰显示英文姓名、出生日期等身份信息。
  • 学生证不可替代。

② 在读证明/成绩单

  • 须为所在高校出具的正式文件(含校徽/印章)。
  • 须为英文版,能明确显示学校名称、本人姓名与在读状态。
  • PDF/JPG,6个月内出具。

常见退回原因:

  • 未上传/文件无法打开
  • 非英文/非正式文件(无校徽/信头,或截图)
  • 仅上传录取/接收函
  • 预计毕业日期已过(需进一步核验)
Q6. 审核需要多久?
一般约2周(不含节假日)。审核过程中不提供个别进度查询。

2. 项目信息

Q7. 什么是 HOPE 项目?
HOPE(Hanyang Online Pre-Exchange)为海外高校在校生提供的短期、免学费英文在线课程项目,可获学分。
Q8. 是否需要缴纳学费?
无需。合作/非合作院校学生均为免学费
Q9. 目前有哪些课程?
当前提供以下六门课程(各学期可能调整):
  • <科学> Revolutions in Science and Technology
  • <创业> Global Entrepreneurship – Launch Your Startup
  • <经济> Principles of Microeconomics
  • <商业> Modern Society and Marketing
  • <韩语> Korean for Beginners

Q10. 每个学期的课程都一样吗?
整体相近,但每年会开发新课。以当学期公示为准。

Q12. 每个 Session 最多可选几门课?
每个 Session 最多2门(6学分)
Q13. 授课形式是什么?
英文授课,100% 在线、非同步(预录)
Q14. 是否有考试?
通常设期中/期末考试或测验,请按 LMS 公告时间内完成。
Q15. HIWS/HISS Online 与 HOPE 有区别吗?
本质相同。官方名称为HOPE;有时称HISS Online(夏)或HIWS Online(冬)。
Q16. Exchange / Visiting 与 HOPE 有何区别?在校(来校)学生也能选 HOPE 在线课吗?
  • Exchange:合作协议下由本校推荐,赴汉阳大学校园学习。
  • Visiting(Free Mover):付费在校内学习,享有专属福利
  • HOPE:免学费在线短期课程,可在本国远程修读。
交换生/访学生亦可选在线课,但选课系统不同。请勿通过 HOPE 站点申请,按简报在指定页面选课。

3. 系统与访问

Q17. 学号何时发放?
申请期结束后统一生成,并通过简报告知。申请期间无学号属正常。
Q18. 如何进入课程?
参阅邮件提供的 Online Course Guide。建议使用 Chrome;关闭自动翻译等扩展。
Q19. 无法登录怎么办?
按指南操作。如仍有问题,邮件至 hyuhope@hanyang.ac.kr(附姓名与学号)。
Q20. 在哪里上课?
通过 HY-in 门户LMS访问。首次登录前请先阅读指南。
Q21. 视频无法正常播放怎么办?
使用 Chrome 并关闭翻译插件。如仍异常,请截屏并邮件联系;如需 IT 介入,处理时间可能延长。

4. 课程与成绩单

Q22. 可以更换已选课程吗?
本项目无正式加退选阶段。请在申请前认真查看大纲与示例视频。若在学期开始后希望尽快调整,请邮件至 hyuhope@hanyang.ac.kr 并附学号、姓名及需求,我们将视时间节点评估处理。
Q23. 可以退课吗?
学期开始后无法退课。如停止参与将记为 F;您可选择不进行学分转换。
Q24. 未完成课程会怎样?
出勤未达2/3将记 F。成绩由出勤、作业、测验综合评定。
Q25. 何时可以收到成绩单?
学期结束后4周内向在简报中提交“成绩单申请表”的学生发放。
Q26. 如何进行学分转换?
以就读院校政策为准,请直接咨询所在学校。
