Neuromorphic photonics

 

With the combination of AI technology and big data, the rapid processing of large amounts of data with minimal loss is a key issue in computational power. While demand for high-performance hardware has increased, electronic-based performance will reach quantum limits.

In order to overcome these limits, our laboratory works to make new physical structure of computer using optical methods.

Just as electronic communication devices have been replaced with optical devices, the electronic computer will be replaced with a special purpose optical computer in the near future. Existing studies on neuromorphic photonics have already shown many significant results, and the production of the analog optical computer becomes a strong motivation. Optical analog computers will provide a breakthrough in speed and energy efficiency over conventional computers.

The objective of our laboratory is to implement novel optical models for neuromorphic computers and apply them to actual industrial sites. We also try to prove our theory associated neuromorphic computers. Our work will be of industrial as well as academic importance.
