The Department of English at Hanyang offers a wide array of courses in linguistics and literature. Our mission is to provide a comprehensive understanding of the development and application of the English language. On the literature side, students learn to read texts closely and to enrich those readings with broader understandings of historical context and critical theory. Our linguistics program covers an extensive range of subfields in linguistics, including phonetics, phonology, syntax, sociolinguistics, pragmatics, language acquisition, psycho/neurolinguistics, and second language learning. Offering a foundational training in critical reading and argumentative writing in English, the department serves as the bedrock for humanities at Hanyang.
