Brief History of Mechanical Engineering (ME)
Year History
1979
The Department of Mechanical Engineering (ME) was established with 500 students.
1987
ME became affiliated with the College of Engineering Science.
1999
The Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Department of Industrial Engineering were integrated into the School of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering. The ME division was also selected for a 1st phase Brain Korea 21 (BK21) program in collaboration with Seoul National University.
2001
The School of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering was renamed to the School of Mechanical and Information Management Engineering.
2003
The ME division was selected as a special program of the Education-Research-Industry Cluster.
2004
The ME division was ranked 2nd in the nationwide evaluation of mechanical engineering by the Korean Council of University Education. It was also selected as a HYU Global Department and an industry-academia cooperation university focused on mechanical and materials engineering.
2006
The ME division was selected for a 2nd phase BK21 program.
2010
ME became an independent department separate from the School of Mechanical and Information Management Engineering.
2012
ME was rated as "outstanding from an industrial perspective" and "outstanding in curriculum" in the evaluation by the Korean Council of University Education.
2014
ME was selected as a Creative Korea II (CK-II) center.
2015
ME received the Excellence Award in the HYU Department Evaluation.
2016
ME was rated "high" in the JoongAng Ilbo Department Evaluation and was selected for the PRIME Project.
2017
ME was selected for the Culivation of Energy Experts Project.
2020
ME was selected for the 4th phase BK21 program (BK21 ERICA Innovative Education and Research Center for Advanced materials-Components-Equipment (ACE) Technology) and was also selected for the Cultivation of Smart Construction Machinery Experts Project.
